"An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" and "The Crime at Picket's Mill" by Ambrose Bierce

Here we have two stories by Ambrose Bierce, in honor of Veterans Day: "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" and “The Crime at Pickett's Mill” Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. considered “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” to be the greatest American short story and a work of flawless American genius. He wrote his war stories from first-hand experience, having enlisted in the Army at the onset of the Civil War. Known for his satirical wit and sardonic view of human nature, Ambrose Bierce earned the nickname "Bitter Bierce." In December 1913, Bierce traveled to Chihuahua, Mexico, to gain first-hand experience of the Mexican Revolution. He disappeared, and was rumored to be traveling with rebel troops.
